People who experience chronic pain are out of practice at finding enjoyment in their life. Yet searching for moments of joy is one way of breaking through the chronic freezing or congestion of the nervous system and interrupting sensitive nerve pain.
So where can you start to look for enjoyment?
You might want to start with your senses other than those related to pain. For example, you might notice the enjoyment of seeing and allowing your eyes to focus on beautiful flowers. You can also enjoy the hearing of delightful music. And what about the positive effects of simple LAUGHTER and play.
There is actually a large amount of research on the benefits of laughter for the body. These include shifts in our internal chemistry such as a reduction in stress hormones, increases the number of fighting cells available to ward off disease and infection and the release of endorphins, those hormones that make us feel good.
The old cliche that “laughter is the best medicine” really is true!
