Music can move people. It can bring a smile to a face and tears to eyes. It can make us laugh and motivate us to overcome obstacles. It has the power to soothe, inspire, energize and uplift. But did you know that the power of music can even reduce pain?🎼🎶
Music therapy has been shown to lower stress, enhance comfort and manage pain for people of all ages, genders and races. There is no one kind of music that everyone finds soothing or beneficial in reducing pain. Start by identifying the type of music that soothes you the most and makes you feel comfortable. This might be anything – classic music, country, jazz, rock ‘n roll, maybe even rap.
Part of the appeal of listening to music to relieve pain is since emotion and pain are strongly linked, music that resonates with positive emotions triggers positive memories can also affect mood and the ability to handle pain. 🎧
So, what makes music so effective at making us feel better? Anything that distracts us from pain may reduce the extent to which we focus on it and music may be particularly powerful in this regard. The beauty is that once we understand how music relates to pain, we have the potential to treat ourselves.
